The first sin was not committed by Mankind it was committed by Lucifer.
Ezekiel 28:17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
The sin he committed was pride. It was because of his outstanding beauty that stirred up pride in him. Sometimes what God has blessed you with can be the reason for your fall because you just don’t know how to handle it. It’s inside us to look for best things, great things, luxurious things and sometimes we don’t even have the stature nor the wisdom for it, so it end up corrupting us.
Look at the verse I shared with you very carefully, “thou has corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness”, It wasn’t something bad that corrupted him, it was something good, something great, something powerful. Evil doesn’t necessarily need something bad to corrupt you.
Just coming from a privileged family can corrupt you, Just coming from honorable family can corrupt, just having loving parents can corrupt, just being heavily anointed can corrupt you, just being taken well cared for can corrupt, just being born into wealthy family can corrupt you, just being rich can corrupt, just being financially supported can corrupt you, just being around someone nice to you can corrupt you. This is why Solomon made a prayer in proverbs, Saying; Proverbs 30:8-9(NLT) “First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name”. He understood that even riches can mislead us from God.
Therefore this first sin is a silent killer, it has killed many great and powerful men, in fact those are the great targets of pride. You will most probably not have pride when you have nothing, but the moment you have everything that’s when this first sin comes in – called pride.
Guard yourself against this spirit by continually and intentionally remaining humble at all times, no matter how powerful you become, or how influential you become or how rich you become, or how famous you become or how privileged you become, continually and intentionally be humble to all men.
Proverbs 16:19 (NLT) It is better to live humbly with the poor than to share plunder with the proud.
Proverbs 29:23 (KJV) A man’s pride will bring him low,But the humble in spirit will retain honor.
