Philippians 3:10 (NKJV) that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
Many of us might say we know God, Which might be true but you see – There’s depths of knowing GOD. Paul prays a prayer here, He said that he might know GOD in the fellowship of his suffering; Now, For me that’s so outstanding. Paul is writing this letter to a people that know how much GOD is mightily using him and a Man GOD is using so mightily, He’s praying to know him? Worse, To know him in the fellowship of his suffering. Now, for me that’s deep and I’ll explain why.
It’s not just about him being used by GOD mightily, But this man has been in ministry for many years, How can he pray such a prayer? This is the Man that won countless souls for the Kingdom of GOD, This is the Man that has been blessed with great understanding of Kingdom mysteries, How can he pray such a prayer? Am saying this because a lot of us in our prayer posture we have already graduated ourselves with PHD’s and Masters, Yet look at the prayer posture of one who has achieved much for the Kingdom
Anyway, He speaks about Knowing GOD in the fellowship of his suffering. I like the way the amplified version put it, it says, “…that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even]…”, It indicates for us that sharing in his suffering makes you to be continually transformed into his very likeness.
So you see, That’s the significance of this prayer, First, it makes us to appreciate suffering for Christ, Then reveals to us what happens when we suffer for CHRIST. Blessed are you, when you are persecuted for his name sake.
1 Peter 3:14 (NKJV) But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”
